Color has a strong influence on mood. Determining the feeling you want in your home is an essential first step in choosing colors. Consider if you want a light and airy feel, or a more intimate enclosed space, which may have darker tones. Remember that cabinetry is a significant design element in a kitchen or bath and will be one of the most important sources of color in the room.

After determining the visual feeling you want to create, select your countertop material and color: granite, wood, quartz, tile, etc. For a bathroom, you may want to select the tile style and color before your countertop, since tile is an important design statement in the room.
