Sophisticated

Beach Classic

When a well-traveled young couple fell in love with the incredible views from this seaside home they decided to make it their own and completely transform the outdated structure.

The couple envisioned a home with the classic feel of an East Coast cottage and the sophisticated design of European living spaces. They were on a tight deadline to complete a whole home remodel that would make the space livable for them and their two young children. The remodel was completed within the footprint of the existing home, built in the 1960s. The home appears dramatically larger and is vastly more functional after thoughtful space planning and design.

The home’s stunning natural surroundings are now central to its welcoming, light filled design. The open space and subtle colors of contemporary aesthetics are balanced with materials and textural details that suggest the appealing character of a classic home. This seaside gem is now an elegant space for entertaining and a comfortable home for raising young children.

Before

The existing home had an amazing location but the interior was outdated and dingy with little thought given to space planning.

After

Natural light now floods the home, which is dramatically brighter and more open. A bay window seat encourages gazing at the natural surroundings.
The original interior was outdated and dark, a stark contrast to the stunning nature just outside.
In the expansive new kitchen, the clean and neutral lines are in harmony with surrounding beauty. Wood flooring in a wide plank design underlies the appealing simplicity of the design.
The kitchen was cramped into a corner that didn’t allow much room for navigating while cooking and cleaning.
Smart space planning was essential to the overall aesthetics of the new kitchen design. Cabinetry with glass doors frames the classic apron sink, making it a focal point in the room.
Old tiles and cabinetry predominated in the existing master bathroom. The room was dark and cluttered.
The new master bathroom was inspired by the client’s love of sparkling gemstones. A window and skylight bring natural light into the space.
One of the small guest bathrooms shared the rest of original home’s outdated fixtures.
The guest bathroom was designed as a new bathroom for the clients’ son, with a black and white Lego’s theme on the curtain (a favorite of the boy’s).
