Cottage

This cottage near the beach is the home of a woman with three beloved pets who wanted to transform her outdated space to better reflect its location and her personality. Artistic and fascinated by all things crafty and repurposed, the client wanted a bright and interesting design rather than a traditional beach aesthetic.

The new look starts with a pop at the front door where the exterior was transformed with bright blue staggered shingles in a whimsical pattern and a door in a chipper apple green. Inside, the kitchen and dining space is now open and expansive for cooking and entertaining with crisp white cabinetry and a balance of cottage, modern, and eclectic elements. Space was added to the back of the cottage to allow for a spacious new walk-in closet and master bathroom, transforming the original basic bedroom into a luxurious master suite with signature style.

This cheerful home now reflects the client’s artistic personality and inspires her to share her appealing space with family and friends.

Before

The existing cottage had potential but was long overdue for an update. The exterior was in need of repair and the colors were dull and dark.

After

The exterior of the cottage was dramatically transformed with vibrant colors. The staggered shingle siding lends additional charm.
While the client enjoyed spending time relaxing on the spacious front porch, the environment was neglected, dark and in disrepair.
The cottage now welcomes visitors with cheerful style and encourages lingering chats. A new door and new windows significantly improve the home design.
The original kitchen was cluttered and dark, with little room for storage, cooking ,or entertaining.
In the spacious new design of the kitchen the charm of cottage life is balanced with modern and eclectic elements.
In the existing kitchen the peninsula was crowded with items that couldn’t be stored. The space was difficult to use for cooking or welcoming friends.
A generous island with a sparkling quartz countertop is now illuminated by a trio of clear globes with vintage modern flair.
The existing sink was small and out of date. Meal prep and cleanup were awkward and time consuming.
The sink area is now a bright and sparkling focal point. New windows flood the roomy apron front sink with natural light.
The original cooktop was small and out of date. It was difficult to feel inspired about cooking and entertaining in the cramped space.
A sleek hood now defines the impressive new cooktop, surrounded by abundant quartz counter tops.
The original kitchen was lacking in storage. The storage that existed was bulky and hard to organize.
A large pantry behind opaque glass doors now provides ample storage space while keeping the kitchen clutter-free.
The bedroom was in need of a significant update to achieve the client’s desire for a luxurious and restful space.
The bedroom now connects to a new master bathroom with a stunning door that feels like a work of art in the room.
