PROJECT SUMMARY
The kitchen in this hilltop home built in the 1960s was dark and outdated, with significant structural and design changes needed to accommodate modern living and make the most of its natural environment. This home features incredible panoramic views of Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean, yet the original kitchen design did little to take advantage of its location. The clients wanted a truly exceptional kitchen with bold scale, interesting materials and airy openness that made the home’s location and panoramic views central in the design.
The new open floor plan was carefully designed to maximize and frame the view from every vantage point. Upon entering the home from the front, one can now see all the way through the new kitchen and out to the vistas beyond. An abundance of natural light and openness creates a feeling of serenity and possibility, emphasized by the sophisticated architectural elements now in place, which combine rustic and Mid-Century Modern elements. This compelling Mid-Century Modern kitchen now beautifully inhabits its natural environment with breathtaking views and impressive design.
